We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year and thank you for your continued support over the years.
2019 was a fantastic year for Great Western Air Ambulance Charity – we celebrated the first year in our new purpose-built airbase in Almondsbury – a much needed new home for our Critical Care Team which has provided them with all the facilities needed to continue providing cutting-edge pre-hospital care.
We were very proud to see the official opening of the airbase in September, with His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester and over 80 guests in attendance who have supported us over the years and made the move possible.
We launched our Girlguiding Challenge Badge, encouraging more young people into careers in Science and Medicine, and our Great Western Heartstarters programme celebrated three years of teaching CPR to school pupils across the region.
Our annual clinical Symposium event was a huge success, held at Aerospace Bristol and brought together over 100 healthcare professionals from across the UK to talk about the future of pre-hospital medicine, and we held our first-ever ‘Women in PHEM’ event.
Three members of our fantastic GWAAC team won awards at the Association of Air Ambulance’s Awards of Excellence this year, with Scott Grier winning Doctor of the Year, Vicki Brown winning Paramedic of the Year and Khin Latt for Charity Staff Member of the Year.
And of course, a huge thank you goes to all of our supporters over the year, who took on huge challenges, from climbing Kilimanjaro, to running marathons, to skydiving, all in aid of GWAAC. To all of you who spent hours fundraising, volunteering and spreading awareness of your local air ambulance – we couldn’t do what we do without you.
Here’s to another great year – THANK YOU!
