Meet our new Assistant Medical Director Dr Andrew Heavyside
August 23, 2023Meet Pilot Rich MacLaughlin
August 30, 2023Starting on 4 September 2023, it's Air Ambulance Week. This week is dedicated to growing awareness for the work that all 21 air ambulances across the UK carry out daily. It's a common misconception that Air Ambulances are ‘just another’ part of the UK’s front-line service. The reality is very different: Air Ambulances are not a part of the NHS and do not receive any regular government funding; they are charities that rely on the support of the public to continue flying. By going #GreenForGWAAC you can show your support for your local air ambulance charity, Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC).
Here at GWAAC we provide emergency care to people who are in a critical state that requires the specialist skills of our team at the scene of an accident or a medical emergency. GWAAC saves lives across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire, and North Somerset. Our crew respond on average to over five incidents a day, 365 days a year, and are on the road to an emergency within five minutes of receiving a call to our base. They work tirelessly to help provide patients with the best chance of a positive outcome. Our service is reliant on our brilliant team of Pilots, Advanced and Specialist Paramedics and Critical Care Doctors who specialise in pre-hospital care. But without your donations and support, we wouldn’t be able to offer this amazing service to those who need it most.
This Air Ambulance week, you might see buildings such as the Bristol Old Vic, Royal West of England Academy and maybe even next door... lighting up green to support GWAAC. Why not do the same? No matter how big or small your display is, you can make a difference! From fairy lights around your window to full on light displays, going #GreenForGWAAC this Air Ambulance Week will help raise awareness for the amazing work that our crew carries out.
Don’t forget to tag @GWAAC in posts of your efforts this Air Ambulance Week.
