November 15, 2024Students from the University of Bath have been fundraising for GWAAC, raising more than £9,000 for our lifesaving service!
Bath Raise and Give (RAG) is the Student Union's fundraising group that raises money throughout the year from various events such as Zombie Apocalypses, Colour Runs, and Race to Paris hitch events. RAG really does it all! And the money raised each year is donated to both local and national charities.
This year, the student body voted for Voices and Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) as the University's Top Two charities to support. And as with previous years, a small portion of all funds raised will go to the Small Charity Grant and to RAG's operating costs.
RAG has had a great first few months including two students running a marathon around campus and a Race to Paris!
The Race to Paris took place during a weekend at the end of October; 52 students embarked on the journey of a lifetime as they travelled from Bath to Paris with no money or their phones! Fun challenges were completed along the way including complimenting strangers, random dance battles in the street and shouting about the Top Two charities on the radio. The challenges were endless and completed tasks gained points that were added to the teams' totals - the team with the most points won! You can find out more about the challenge, what went on and the eventual winners here on the SU website.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has played a part in raising so much money for GWAAC, enabling us to continue to provide critical care to those across our community.”
Dan Hanley-Shearing, Supporter Engagement Officer, Great Western Air Ambulance Charity
Dan and Specialist Paramedic in Critical Care, Callum, also expressed their thanks to the students during an educational talk in October on how the charity operates. The duo raised awareness of our lifesaving work across the University's campus.
