FAQs
How high is the abseil?
23 metres/ 75 feet
Are there any restrictions?
How accessible is the event?
Whilst every effort is made to ensure our events are accessible, this cannot always be achieved. Getting to the abseil site will involve walking up steps to the top of the stand and then climbing up two ladders and through hatches to access the roof itself.
How fit do I need to be to take part?
All participants are required to have a reasonable level of mobility, being able to climb a couple of flights of stairs and access a loft via a ladder are examples of the mobility needed for this event. If you are unsure or have any medical conditions which could impact your participation, we recommend you speak with your doctor in advance.
How long does the abseil take?
We expect participants to spend around 1.5 hours on site from registration to competing the abseil.
Will there be parking on the day?
Parking is available at Ashton Gate Stadium
What do I need to bring?
- Warm clothing (trousers and long sleeves are advised)
- Trainers or walking boots (no heels, flip flops or open toe shoes)
- We will have tea and coffee on offer but do recommend that you bring your own water and snacks
- Any medication that you need
Can I register with friends?
There are twelve slots per hour. If you would like to abseil with friends or family we recommend all booking together and selecting the same time slot or time slots next to each other. We will not be able to change anything around on the day.
How do I start fundraising?
- Our charity staff are here to help you from setting up an online fundraising page to thinking of and executing some fun ideas to raise those all important funds.
- Each participant will receive a Welcome Pack that will walk you through the steps to start fundraising.
- All of the money raised will go to keeping our essential service running, allowing our critical care crew to be there for local people on their worst day.
What if I don’t reach the minimum sponsorship target?
- By registering for this challenge, you are pledging to raise the minimum sponsorship (not including Gift Aid) for GWAAC and understand that it is the aim of this challenge to raise as much as possible for your local air ambulance.
- You must have fundraised and banked at least 75% of the target one week before the event date. If you cannot meet this target, then your place may be forfeited unless you make up the balance yourself. The remaining must be paid in no later than four weeks after the event date.
- If at any point you feel unable to raise the pledged amount, you must inform your GWAAC contact immediately so that they can offer assistance with fundraising.
