‘We are still a family thanks to you’

For many families, Christmas is a time of togetherness, laughter, and making memories. But for some, this festive season could have looked very different.

Thanks to the rapid, lifesaving response of Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC), countless children were able to  celebrate Christmas where they belong — surrounded by love.

We're sharing messages from a few of the parents whose lives have been touched by our work. Their messages are raw, heartfelt, and filled with gratitude for the crews and supporters who made these moments possible.

Jasmine - A medical emergency at home

From 4-years-old to 10-years old

"This Christmas we’ll be celebrating our seventh year of still being a family, of still being a Mum and Dad, to the most amazing Daughter - thanks to GWAAC and their supporters.

Our daughter Jasmine, she’s the one born to want to make a difference, to be kind, to help and she understands how precious life is at only 10-years-old. Jas attends mainstream school and is an Aunty, a Sister, a Granddaughter and our child.

She cannot wait for Christmas, having had her nice list certificate from the Elves! Jas’ enthusiasm for life and to help anyone, contribute to others lives and be happy is unsurpassed.

I’m still a Mum, thanks to you. My daughter would not have survived if it wasn’t for GWAAC arriving at our door, with the equipment and skills of a hospital on their back. Setting up an operating theatre in our home, on our driveway. Taking her where they knew she needed to be, in the worst weather, because they knew where she'd get the best help. We are so grateful daily.

We knew little of GWAAC funding before this. Nothing for Air Ambulance’s from the Government, nothing from the Lottery, it all comes from you. From supporters. You saved our daughter. I can quantify exactly where each pound goes, as I stand there with my Jasmine and say we are still a family thanks to you.

Jas would have lost her life at four-and-half-years-old, or been faced with a very different one if it wasn’t for you. She is going to be 11-years-old in February and she loves going to cookery and swimming classes every week. She’s already mastering becoming quite the Chef!

I live everyday we live together. We live a kind life. We pay it forward, and back. We hope we make a difference to others as you have to us.

Jas can’t wait to enjoy Christmas, she believes in Santa and hope, and that there are always those there to help like Great Western Air Ambulance Charity—that keep families together."

Logan - A medical emergency at home

"Logan is doing incredibly well.

He’s currently studying Engineering at college and can now ride a motorbike! (Just one more thing for me to worry about!)

His future is bright and I feel so lucky that GWAAC were there that day."

-Mum, Sue

Hamish - A badly broken arm

From 4-years-old to 13-years old

"He's doing well and is very active, lots of fitness classes (circuits, S&C etc) and cycling. He's looking forward to the Stranger Things finale over Christmas."

-Dad, Ben

Alfie - A medical emergency at home

From 3-years-old to 13-years-old
