Your pupils can make a lifesaving difference in their communities
Thank you for making the amazing decision to teach your class lifesaving skills. As your local air ambulance, we know how important these skills can be. Around 25% of the missions our Critical Care Team attend are cardiac arrests – where someone’s heart and breathing have stopped. In a situation where someone’s life is in danger, every minute counts.
Our crew can be anywhere within our region within 20 minutes, but the actions of bystanders in the crucial moments before they arrive can be the difference between life and death.
Every year in the UK, 30,000 people suffer an out of hospital cardiac arrest and sadly less than 1 in 10 currently survive. For every minute that passes without defibrillation and CPR, a person’s chance of survival goes down by 10%. which is why it is so important that members of our community have the confidence and skills to step up and deliver early lifesaving interventions.
Trigger warning
Our Critical Care Team bring hospital level skills and equipment to the patient, therefore, as your students learn these critical lifesaving skills they will be exposed to medical terminology and stories involving people who have been injured or found not breathing. You know the students in front of you best, but please be mindful that some may find some of the content or activities difficult if they have had lived experiences that they may be reminded of whilst completing this lesson.
